CEO and Senior Internet Strategist
Jason is the CEO of Communicopia, a Webby Award winning online strategy and development firm supporting organizations working for sustainability and social change. He leads online strategy engagements for clients including BC Hydro, The Elders, Make Poverty History, Environmental Defence Canada, the BC Climate Action Secrateriat, and the United Nations Foundation. A serial entrepreneur, Jason has held senior roles in technology start-ups since 1995.
Jason is the founder and co-convener of the Web of Change conference at Hollyhock, which promotes innovation, collaboration, and transformation in the social technology sector and in its seventh year has become the premier summit for leaders in the movement. He is a partner and board member with BC Technology Social Venture Partners, a venture-style philanthropy where 70 partners donate money and time to help innovative non-profits reach sustainability and scale. At SVP he helped co-found the BC Social Enterprise Fund that has awarded over $500,000 in growth capital to enterprising non-profits in BC. Believing that business has a pivotal role to play in social change, he was a founding board member of Canadian Business for Social Responsiblility and is a long time member of the Social Venture Network in the US.
In 2001 he was awarded as one of Business in Vancouver's "Top 40 Under 40" entrepreneurs and led Communicopia to receiving the BC Technology Industry Association's first "Leadership in Social Responsibility" Award. A popular presenter and speaker, he has been featured in international media such as the New York Times, National Post, CBC Newsworld, The Guardian, CNN.com, CBC's The National, and Yoga Journal. In 2007 his team earned a coveted Webby Award for World's Best Charitable Website for www.NothingButNets.net.
