NFB: The Ties That Bind

An Internet Documentary and Community Engagement Project

Client: The National Film Board of Canada | Site URL: www.tiesthatbind-nfb.ca

Communicopia broke new ground in the world of online storytelling with its production of The Ties That Bind Internet documentary and website, funded by the National Film Board.

Working in partnership with Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN), one of Canada's most visionary non-profits, we created a site that helps people with disabilities and their loved ones deal with the challenges they face and share their stories online. We provided the creative, content and technical direction while conducting usability testing meeting the highest standards of the World Wide Web Consortium's Accessibility Guidelines.

This innovative project features the story of Chris Jordan and his family as they strive to create a more independent life for him. Issues such as isolation, choice, citizenship, and community are explored through their story. This online documentary continues to expand is audience and impact and was recently donated by the NFB back to PLAN for further expansion.
