Your Organization and the Changing World of the Web :: Ottawa

If you are in Ottawa, Ontario in late October you can join Communicopia CEO Jason Mogus as he presents the keynote presentation to the Canadian Council on Social Development's annual meeting. Their last keynote speaker 2 years ago was former Saskatchewan Premier Roy Romonow who had just come off of leading the National round table on the future of health care. This year Jason will challenge social service leaders to think about their organizations, their roles, and the ways they communicate and collaborate with the outside world differently in the face of the converging trends of Web 2.0 and giving back once again change everything as we know it.

Your Organization and the Changing World of the Web

Jason Mogus, CEO of Communicopia, a Vancouver-based strategy and design firm, will talk about how organizations can build meaningful relationships and find supporters using the Web. For more than a decade, he has worked with non-profits, social enterprises, communities, and governments to help them use the web to inspire action and generate change. In 2007, the company received a Webby Award as one of the world's best charitable websites for its work with the U.N. Foundation's NothingButNets.net campaign, which has raised over $16 million to send anti-malaria bed nets to Africa.

The success of Facebook and YouTube are more than just a passing fad; they are examples of a cultural shift. During this informal, hour-long session, Jason will separate the trends from the trendiness. He'll get you thinking about the possibilities for your organization and the social development community. And he'll provide some realistic advice to help you plot your strategy before you ramp up your online efforts.

And don't worry. This session will be interesting and useful to you even if you don't know an RSS feed from a Wiki. (Unfortunately, we cannot provide simultaneous translation of Jason's remarks.)
