Come hear Avaaz.org founder and Executive Director Ricken Patel share hisRicken Patel and Jon Warnow secrets on how they built the world’s (and Canada’s) largest online advocacy organization, with 3.3 million active members (320,000 in Canada!), in just over a year.

Avaaz grew out of the MoveOn political action network, who transformed the face of progressive change online in the US. Ricken’s team has built Avaaz into the world’s largest and most active online voice for change, helping to transform the Bali climate change negotiations, buying ads to sway public opinion towards peace in the Middle East, and launching the world’s fastest growing online petition in support of Tibetan independence this year.

Ricken and the team put their trust in the power of the grassroots. Technology and the internet have allowed citizens to connect and mobilize like never before and the rise of a new model of internet-driven politics is changing everything. Avaaz connects people across borders to bring people powered politics to international decision-making.

Ricken will be joined by Jon Warnow, who as a New England college student helped create one of the most successful global warming campaigns of 2007: Step It Up. Jon will share his tips for success in a world where organizing has changed from rigid hierarchies to radical transparency.
