Today we launched a new campaign for the United Nations Foundation, an
exciting initiative to encourage the US to "pay up" its fair share of dues to the UN for global peacekeeping.
The campaign, called "Price of Peace" offers that "Peace is cheaper than war", and that the UN is both significantly more efficient (8X cheaper than unilateral US action) and more effective (60 years, 172 peaceful settlements). The US government itself continues to press the UN to become even more involved in peacekeeping global hotspots yet for some reason US Congress is potentailly witholding up to $500M in current US dues it has already promised, with up to $1B in arrears by the end of the year. This is the cost of 2 days of the Iraq war!
The campaign aims to build political support for the US keeping its promises. Our involvement consisted of 6 different banner ads running on online media sites such as Yahoo, a compelling Flash Movie explaining the situation and the need to act, and putting them on their website, www.priceofpeace.org, with an online petition to tell Congress to keep their promise. One vote means $500M to support a safer world so we are hoping the campaign is successful!
Visit the site, watch the movie, and sign the online petition today. We'd love to know what you think of the campaign with a comment below.
